Get to know the residence of Los Pinos inside
We take you to what was the official residence of Los Pinos, which is now converted into a museum that opens the doors to all Mexicans.
After 83 years of being home to the presidency, the official residence of Los Pinos opened its doors for the first time to the general public. From the beginning of his campaign, the now president Andrés Manuel López Obrador proposed converting this space into a museum so that it could be visited by Mexican citizens and tourists. As of December 1, 2018, Los Pinos was in charge of the Ministry of Culture and its name is now Los Pinos Cultural Complex.
Now, visitors can enter Los Pinos from 10 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon from Tuesday to Sunday and for free.
Another point worth seeing in the visit is the series of cannons that honor the military who participated in the battle of Molino del Rey.
A few meters ahead, a giant eagle welcomes everyone who wishes to enter Molino del Rey street. In this space there is a small aqueduct, which, on passing it, leads you to a five-story building that once served as a mill and then housed offices until the previous sexennium.
Next to the Molino del Rey is a historic gallery that houses some of the cars that were used by the former presidents of Mexico. In this area you don't have access to any building, but you can read more about the history of this place on the informational posters. If you continue walking you will arrive at the Miguel Alemán house. On the way you will pass through some gardens that lead you to the Causeway of the Presidents, which is adorned by the statues of the presidents who inhabited Los Pinos.
Once in the Casa Miguel Alemán, you will have to wait a few minutes to enter, but once inside you will be surprised with the furniture, the high ceilings and the crystal chandeliers, It is worth mentioning that, despite the opulence, there are some spaces within this residence that are empty and that have no greater appeal.
In the part of the dining room and the room, there are still some pieces of art and furniture from the offices where Peña Nieto held meetings. In the basement house is the spectacular movie theater for 30 people and a bunker.
When you leave this house, you will see in the garden a miniature replica of El Caballito by sculptor Sebastián (real name is Enrique Carbajal), a space that is definitely worth photographing.
The tour ends at the Lázaro Cárdenas house. There are preserved furniture, rugs and some paintings of great value and also worth admiring.
